Why this work matters

A child’s day is full of firsts: a letter traced carefully, a story shared aloud, a teacher who notices. Fount Academy walks with preschool and community-school teachers in rural Burundi, bringing learning materials, practical training, and encouragement into the classroom.

A teacher needs more than a lesson plan. With materials, preparation, and room to try new activities, teachers open classrooms where children can explore. Fount Academy supports the teacher as well as the child.

School and classroom materials support everyday learning, from writing practice to activities that introduce language and the world around a child.

Practice for teachers

Teachers work on lesson planning, classroom activities, and using learning materials. Through practical training, teachers bring new ideas into their own classrooms.

Forestine

From teacher to head teacher

Forestine began teaching preschool in Gasaka, near Makamba. After a year, she became head teacher at FAHEKI's school in Kayogoro. The 2023 report describes how she applied teacher training, supported colleagues, and continued caring for children through changes in staffing and classroom size.
